What is a Preview Performance?

The first three performances of every show at TheatreWorks are considered Previews. These performances offer a chance to the people involved with the production to see their work performed front of a live audience. Then they get to use that information to make changes or tweaks. Opening Night is considered the "final draft" of the show, which will then run the same way for every performance.

Tickets to Previews are less expensive because there is a chance of unexpected things happening during these shows. While some people find unpredictability exciting, we understand that others do not and we appreciate those of you who are willing to act as our guinea pigs!

Oh no, I'm late!

Latecomers will be seated at the house manager’s discretion. This might mean you will be asked to sit in an open seat towards the back until intermission so as not to disturb other guests watching the show. If you arrive significantly late, you are more than welcome to give the Box Office a call at 650.463.1960 to exchange your ticket so that you can don't miss anything good.

Please note: Single ticket exchanges are subject to a $15 fee. Subscriber exchanges may be subject to an upgrade depending on the seat location.

How glamorous do I have to be?

TheatreWorks has no dress code. We like you just the way you are! We do ask that you consider going without when it comes to wearing perfumes or colognes, as some people around you might be sensitive to strong smells.

To food or not to food?

Since the sound of food wrappers and chomping can be disruptive to other people in the theatre, we ask that you don't bring in any food. (Not to mention stains can be a pain to get out of those theatre seats!) You're more than welcome to bring in water as long as it's in a container with a lid.

You wouldn't download a car...

Much like how you wouldn't pirate a movie by recording it in the movie theatre, we ask that you not record any of our productions. Not only is it disruptive to the other people around you, but there are plenty of legal reasons why not to as well.

Cellphones. Not even once.

Please keep your cellphone off during all performances. We promise that no text message you get will be nearly as exciting as the show we're putting on for you!

Would my newborn enjoy Sweeney Todd?

Most little ones have a difficult time sitting still and quiet for the duration of our plays, so we ask that children aged 5 and under stay home with a babysitter or a cool grandma. We also ask that youth under 14 be accompanied by an adult into the theatre.
