KATIE MAUPIN (Winnie Foster) is thrilled to be making her TheatreWorks debut in Tuck Everlasting. Some of her favorite previous credits include Mary Lennox in The Secret Garden (42nd Street Moon), Jane Banks in Mary Poppins (Hillbarn Theatre), Anybodys in West Side Story (Hillbarn Theatre), Scout/Townskid in To Kill a Mockingbird (Hillbarn Theatre), and Lucy in 13, the Musical (Hillbarn Theatre Conservatory). Katie is in eighth grade at Bowditch Middle School. In addition to her vocal training, she also takes classes in tap, ballet, jazz, and modern, and is on her studio’s dance express team. She also enjoys playing the ukulele and piano in her free time.
NATALIE SCHROEDER (Winnie Foster) is thrilled and grateful to return to the TheatreWorks stage after her performance as Young Miriam in The Prince of Egypt. She has been captivated by Winnie Foster’s story ever since she wrote a book report on Tuck Everlasting in fifth grade. She recently appeared in The People in the Picture (Jenny Martin) at 3Below Theaters in San Jose. She has performed extensively with the Peter Pan Foundation, where her favorite shows include A Little Princess (Sara Crewe), Little Women (Young Beth), and Wish Upon a Star (Michael Darling). SYDNEY WALKER FREEMAN (Thomas Tuck) is appearing in her first TheatreWorks production. She has appeared in several youth productions in the Bay Area,including Frog & Toad (Toad), Seussical (Mrs. Mayor), Willy Wonka Kids (Charlie), Dear Edwina (Annie/Susie), Pirates Past Noon (Annie), Aladdin (Genie), High School Musical (Ms. Darbus), and 15 Reasons Not to Be in a Play with StarStruck Theatre, and James and the Giant Peach (James) and Annie (Annie) with Bay Area Children’s Theatre. (Young Patrick/Peter)at South Bay Musical Theatre, The Sound of Music (Friedrich) at Foothill Music Theatre, A Christmas Story (Randy) at SF Playhouse, Peace on Your Wings (Haru) with Ohana Arts and All My Sons (Bert) with Jewel Theatre Company. He has also done numerous shows with Children’s Musical Theater San Jose. Some of his favorites include Willy Wonka (Augustus Gloop) and Crazy for You (Jimmy). Jake is in the seventh grade at Union Middle School in San Jose.
GIANA GAMBARDELLA (Carney Woman) has most recently performed with Center REPertory Company in Mamma Mia! (Sophie) and Freaky Friday (Gretchen). Earlier this year, she also appeared in Contra Costa Musical Theatre’s production of West Side Story (Maria). During her time studying at UC Davis, she performed in productions of The Fantasticks (Luisa), Spring Awakening (Thea), and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (Sonia). She would like to thank her family for the continuous support.
EDDIE GREY (Jesse Tuck) recently moved to the U.S. from Australia. Some of his major theatrical credits include Wicked (Boq), The Book of Mormon, Legally Blonde (Kiki), and Spring Awakening (Georg). He also has a passion for creating new work and has had the pleasure of workshopping musicals such as Becoming Nancy (dir. Jerry Mitchell), Muriel’s Wedding (dir. TRAVIS LELAND (Miles Tuck) This is Mr. Leland’s fourth mainstage show with TheatreWorks. He was last seen in the ensemble of the world premiere of The Prince of Egypt, as Ben in Rags, Frank Churchill in Emma, and in the New Works Festival readings of Norman Rockwell’s America, The Giver, and understudy for Fly By Night. KRISTINE REESE (Mae Tuck) originated the role of Catherine on the First National Tour of the Tony Award-winning revival of Pippin. Other Broadway/National Tour credits include Finding Neverland (Mary Barrie), Wicked (Nessarose), Les Misérables (2007 Broadway revival) and Mamma Mia! (Sophie u/s–performed). MICHAEL GENE SULLIVAN (Man in the Yellow Suit) has performed with TheatreWorks in Around the World in 80 Days, Cyrano, Peter and the Starcatcher, The Hound of the Baskervilles, 33 Variations, Twentieth Century, Twelfth Night, Violet, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Once on This Island. Other recent credits include black odyssey (California Shakespeare Theater), Widowers Houses (Aurora Theatre), She Loves Me, Stage Kiss, and Dogfight (SF Playhouse), as well as work with American Conservatory Theater, Marin Theatre Company, Denver Center Theatre Company, and the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival. He is also a member of the Tony Award-winning San Francisco Mime Troupe, where he has acted in, written, and/or directed over 25 shows, and is a Playwrights Foundation Resident Playwright, and the author of the critically-acclaimed adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984.
COLIN THOMSON (Constable Joe) last appeared at TheatreWorks in the New Works Festival reading of Something Wicked This Way Comes. Previous New Works projects include Big Red Sun and Writing Arthur. TheatreWorks mainstage performances include The Light in the Piazza and The Learned Ladies of Park Avenue. He understudied the Broadway tour of Claudia Shear’s Dirty Blonde, directed by James Lapine. ACT appearances include A Christmas Carol, 1776 (directed by Frank Galati), and Happy End where he contributed to the production’s cast recording. Career favorites include Dirty Blonde with Portland Center Stage, Company with Marin Theatre Company, and Center REP’s Sisters Matsumoto. Television and film work includes NBC’s Trauma and Blue Jasmine. Mr. Thomson has been a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association for more than 22 years.
JONATHAN RHYS WILLIAMS (Angus Tuck) rejoins TheatreWorks for the first time in more than a decade. Other roles at TheatreWorks include Charley in Charley’s Aunt, Monty in Violet, Agis in Triumph of Love, Mog Edwards in Under Milkwood, and Roberto in Galileo. Other Bay Area credits include San Jose Stage Company (Disgraced, The Night Alive, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Rock and Roll, Biedermann and the Firebugs, A View from the Bridge, Cumberland Blues), Aurora Theatre Company (Therese Requine, The Homecoming), American Musical Theatre of San Jose, San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, and others. In 2002, he co-founded Capital Stage Company, which continues to serve the Greater Sacramento Area to this day. During his 15 years with the organization, he served in various capacities including directing three rolling world premieres, taking on a score of acting roles, and designing sets, lights, or sound for more than 50 productions.
NATALIE BABBITT (Original Novel) was a celebrated author of children’s literature, best known for the novel Tuck Everlasting. She wrote twenty books during her lifetime, including The Search for Delicious, Kneeknock Rise, The Eyes of the Amaryllis, Goody Hall, Herbert Rowbarge, and The Moon Over High Street, among others. She was the recipient of the inaugural E.B White Award, a Newbery Honor, and a Christopher Award. She was also an illustrator and essayist, and a frequent contributor to The Times Book Review.
CLAUDIA SHEAR (Co-Bookwriter) is an American playwright whose works include the Obie Award-winning autobiographical monologue Blown Sideways Through Life, plays Dirty Blonde and Restoration, and (with Tim Federle) the book of the musical Tuck Everlasting. Ms. Shear is also a Tony-nominated actress, having starred in Dirty Blonde, and also appeared onstage in The Smell of the Kill and Evening at the Talk House. Film credits include It Could Happen To You, Living Out Loud, and TV appearances on Law and Order and Friends.
TIM FEDERLE (Co-Bookwriter) is the author of novels Better Nate Than Ever; Five, Six, Seven, Nate; and Nate Expectations; and a series of cocktail recipe books including Tequila Mockingbird. On Broadway, he
co-wrote the book for Tuck Everlasting, performed in the original cast of The Little Mermaid and the 2003 revival of Gypsy, and served as dance captain for Billy Elliot the Musical. Most recently, Federle co-wrote the screenplay for the Academy Award-nominated Ferdinand, which also earned him the Humanitas Prize.
CHRIS MILLER (Music) composed musicals Tuck Everlasting and The Burnt Part Boys, and the song-cycle Fugitive Songs, all collaborations with lyricist Nathan Tysen. Together they have written circuses for Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey and songs for Sesame Street and The Electric Company. Mr. Miller co-composed the 2010 revival of Angels in America with Michael Friedman, and is a contributing composer on Songs from an Unmade Bed. Currently, He and Mr. Tysen are adapting Willa Cather’s Eric Hermannson’s Soul, co-commissioned by TheatreWorks and Playwrights Horizons.
NATHAN TYSEN (Lyrics) co-wrote
(with Daniel Messé) lyrics for the recent Broadway musical Amélie. With song-writing partner Chris Miller, his works include Tuck Everlasting, The Burnt Part Boys, Fugitive Songs, as well as other projects. With Ryan McCall, he co-wrote the holiday musical Noah’s Art. In 2016, he received the Kleban Award for most promising lyricist. For over a decade, Mr. Tysen has written and directed for the Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts, helping young adults create their own original musicals.
ROBERT KELLEY (Director) is a Bay Area native and Stanford University graduate. He founded TheatreWorks in 1970 and has directed over 175 TheatreWorks productions, including many world and regional premieres. He has received the Silicon Valley Arts Council’s Legacy Laureate Award; the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Paine Knickerbocker Award and Jerry Friedman Award for Lifetime Achievement; BATCC Awards for Outstanding Direction for The Hound of the Baskervilles; Into the Woods; Pacific Overtures; Rags; Sweeney Todd; Another Midsummer Night; Sunday in the Park with George; Jane Eyre; and Caroline, or Change; and Back Stage West Garland Awards for his direction of Side Show and Sunday in the Park with George. He recently directed The Bridges of Madison County, Around the World in 80 Days, Constellations, Rags, Daddy Long Legs (Theatre Bay Area Award for Outstanding Direction of a Musical, 2017), Outside Mullingar, Cyrano, and Jane Austen’s EMMA.
FUMIKO BIELEFELDT (Costume Designer) has designed over 60 productions for TheatreWorks since 1983, including The Bridges of Madison County, Rags, Daddy Long Legs, Cyrano, Fallen Angels, Sweeney Todd, Silent Sky, Little Women, Being Earnest, 33 Variations, Sense and Sensibility, Snow Falling on Cedars, Yellow Face, Twentieth Century, and Emma, which traveled to Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (Kevin Klein Awards Nominee). Her designs have appeared in the Bay Area at American Conservatory Theater, Aurora Theatre Company, California Shakespeare Theater, Magic Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, San Jose Repertory Theatre, and Eureka Theatre, among others. Ms. Bielefeldt graduated from Waseda University
(Tokyo) and studied costume design at Stanford. She has received many design awards, including the 2004 Barbara Bladen Porter Special Award and Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle, Dean Goodman Choice, and Back Stage West Garland Awards.
ASHLEY TAYLOR FRAMPTON (Stage Manager) matriculated from the University of California, Santa Cruz and Kent University, England with a BA in Theatre Arts, Film and Digital Media, respectively. Since 2004 she has worked internationally as a stage manager, production manager, master electrician, properties designer, sound technician, and stuntwoman. From theatre to film, music and live events, credits include San Francisco Sketchfest (Assistant Technical Director), California Shakespeare Theater (Master Electrician), Legion A/V (Head of Lighting), Playfaire Productions (Swordsman), The Independent SF (Lighting Technician), Highlander Films (Production Assistant), ACT, Center REP, Cabrillo Stage, Hillbarn Theatre, Magic Theatre, and many more. When not in production, she trains with mêlée weapons at Davenriche European Martial Arts School where she is an assistant instructor and apprentice to Sir Steaphen Fick. This winter, she is excited to return to TheatreWorks for two productions and is looking forward to going on tour with Grammy- nominated guitarist, Zane Carey, in the spring of 2019.
PAMILA Z. GRAY (Lighting Designer) designed TheatreWorks’ The Bridges of Madison County, Confederates, Cyrano, Once on This Island, Sense and Sensibility, The Light in the Piazza, Tinyard Hill, Baby Taj, My Ántonia, Kept, and A Civil War Christmas. Her work on Bingo! The Musical was seen in Chicago, Ft. Lauderdale, and the Bay Area’s Center REPertory Company. Her designs have also been seen in Los Angeles, Portland, Sacramento, Houston, Dallas, and Washington, DC. She has won 7 Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards including her TheatreWorks designs for Grey Gardens, Floyd Collins, Cabaret, and Almost September, which also garnered a Bay Area Drama-Logue Award. She has won four Dean Goodman Choice Awards, including both Ragtime and The Cripple of Inishmaan, at TheatreWorks. Ms. Gray is a graduate of Northwestern University.
CHERYLE HONERLAH (Assistant Stage Manager) is excited to return to TheatreWorks this season. Previously, she stage managed for 2017’s New Work Festival and worked as the Production Assistant for Daddy Long Legs. She has been stage managing in the Bay Area for several years, working with many theatres including California Shakespeare Theater, (Black Odyssey, Quixote Nuevo, The Glass Menagerie), Douglas Morrisson Theatre (Charlie’s Aunt ’66; Book of Days; Hank Williams: Lost Highway), Shotgun Players (The Mouse Trap), and African-American Shakespeare Company (The Tempest, Medea, Much Ado About Nothing). Ms. Honerlah holds a BA in Technical Theatre from CSU East Bay, and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association.
WILLIAM LIBERATORE (Musical Director) is TheatreWorks’ Resident Musical Director and has conducted over 35 shows, including The Prince of Egypt, Rags, The Life of the Party, Jane Austen’s EMMA, Sweeney Todd, Once on This Island (2014 TBA Award), Little Women, The Secret Garden, A Christmas Memory, Crowns, Jane Eyre, Ragtime, and Pacific Overtures. He was Musical Director at American Musical Theatre of San Jose, conducting over 30 shows including Flower Drum Song, Gypsy, A Chorus Line, 42nd Street, Follies, and Children of Eden. He has won Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards for A Little Night Music, South Pacific, and Damn Yankees (AMTSJ), and Bat Boy: The Musical; Into the Woods; Emma; Caroline, or Change; The Light in the Piazza, and The Four Immigrants (TheatreWorks). He is also the director of the award-winning Gunn High School Choirs.
LIA METZ (Stage Manager) Ms. Metz most recently Stage Managed Once Upon a Rhyme in TheatreWorks’ New Works Festival this summer, and Deal With the Dragon at last year’s Festival. Other credits include: Center Theatre Group, Berkeley Rep, ACT, Los Angeles Ballet, Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater, San Francisco International Arts Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest, Celebration Theatre (The Boy From OZ–winner of 10 LA Ovation Awards), and many more. ALEX PEREZ (Choreographer) was most recently associate choreographer for TheatreWorks’ production of Little Women. He has choreographed TheatreWorks productions of Merrily We Roll Along (Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle nomination), Sunday in the Park with George, and Violet (Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle nomination) and was assistant director/assistant choreographer for Kiss of the Spider Woman. He was awarded a Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award for Best Director for the 2006 Broadway By the Bay production of Miss Saigon. He has worked as a performer, director, and choreographer for companies including The Old Globe (San Diego), American Musical Theatre of San Jose, and San Jose Stage Company. Mr. Perez received his MFA from The Old Globe Masters Acting Training Program.
JOE RAGEY (Scenic Designer) has designed over 60 shows since 1985. His favorite TheatreWorks designs include Around The World in 80 Days, Peter and The Starcatcher, Daddy Long Legs, Little Women, Big River, Sense and Sensibility, The 39 Steps, A Christmas Memory, Merrily We Roll Along, Baby Taj, My Ántonia, Jane Eyre, Peter Pan, Triumph of Love, You Can’t Take it With You, Equus, Conversations With My Father, Nagasaki Dust, Honor Song for Crazy Horse, La Bete, and Pacific Overtures. JEFFREY LO (Casting Director) directed TheatreWorks’ The Santaland Diaries, and wrote Waiting For Next, which was part of the 2017 New Works Festival. He was the assistant director for TW’s The Four
Immigrants: An American Musical Manga, Water by the Spoonful, and Superior Donuts. A graduate of UC Irvine, he is the recipient of the Leigh Weimers Emerging Artist Award, Arts Council Silicon Valley’s Emerging Artist Laureate, and Theatre Bay Area’s Titan Award. Additional directing credits include Yellow Face and The Crucible at Los Altos Stage Company, and Noises Off! and Peter and the Starcatcher at Hillbarn Theatre. In addition to his work as a playwright and director, he is an alumnus of the Multicultural Arts Leadership Institute and works as an advocate and educator on issues of equity and diversity throughout the country.
