New Works Internship

TheatreWorks growing New Works program processes hundreds of solicited scripts each season, sponsors a one-week writers' retreat in January each year and mounts an annual New Works Festival each April. New works interns are charged with providing administrative support for these projects and logistical support for the annual retreat and festival. The new works internship is part-time, and usually coupled with general arts administration. Recommended for students with interests in directing, producing, or playwriting.


Responsibilities

Tasks may include but not be limited to:

  • Tracking and data management of new plays under consideration
  • Coordination of a bi-weekly reading committee
  • Data entry and management of company script library
  • Logistical and operational support of rehearsal facility during writers' retreat
  • Personally assist visiting playwrights or actors as needed during writers' retreat
  • Marketing, publications, logistical support, and coordination for New Works Festival
  • Attend organizational meetings for Festival as needed


Experience/Background/Skills Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, detail oriented
  • Two or more years college level coursework in theatre, playwriting, and/or directing
  • Competent in Microsoft Office 2000
  • Experience in stage management, directing, or producing a plus


Dates/Hours

Hours and dates are by arrangement with TheatreWorks New Works director.


Wednesday Workdays/Special Events

One day each week, interns from all departments come together to support general company operations. On Wednesdays, interns assist in the warehouse in costume rentals or props, or in other labor-intensive projects. Cleaning and organizing rehearsal halls or distributing marketing materials to retail stores are examples of other possible Wednesday Workday projects. In addition, interns are expected to work on large company special events such Opening Night Receptions, the annual Season Announcement, or large patron fundraisers. Production management interns are excluded from Wednesday Workdays during peak periods.
