Introductory Internships - Summer Camps

Participants in Introductory Internships (Junior Interns) must complete a minimum of 120 work hours with the program. 

Responsibilities
Approximately 80 hours will be spent with The Workshop, TheatreWorks education wing. Junior Interns will participate for two weeks, full time, as counselors and mentors to elementary school students who are interested in theater arts. Students will work closely with professional teaching artists in areas of movement, voice and acting.

Additionally, junior interns will complete a minimum of 40 work hours in support of general TheatreWorks operations in the areas of props and costume stock maintenance, grass-roots marketing, general administrative support, and special events. 

Suggested schedule for completion of additional hours is two days per week, and interns are encouraged to participate as many weeks as they are able during the summer. It is during the additional weeks that enrichment activities are available. These activities are may include, but are not limited to, summer brown bag lunches on theatre career topics, staff design presentations, attendance at marketing, development, production and full staff meetings, and guest speaker events. All enrichment activities are open to both members of both the Introductory Internship and Professional Internship Programs.

Experience/Background Requirements

  • One year of class work in theatre arts or equivalent experience.

Skills Requirements

  • Dependable and committed
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Flexible/Good attitude – intern is expected to pitch in when needed on a wide variety of projects, sometimes outside the scope of their standard workload.
  • Experience working with children a plus

Special Issues: Junior Interns with vehicles, who have been in possession of a driver’s license for one year, may be asked to serve as carpool drivers for other interns. This is optional. Gas reimbursements are available.

Dates/Hours
Hours and dates are by arrangement with the Intern Manager, following general criteria stated above.
