TheatreWorks is especially proud of its broad-ranging community engagement activities. The department boasts a dynamic TheatreWorks for Schools program which includes artist residencies in the schools, student matinees, touring assemblies, and more. This summer, education interns will work in our elementary school summer camps, mentored by professional teaching artists in a workshop setting. Community Engagement provides support programming in local hospitals and audience enrichment newsletters and events. Recommended for students interested in student and/or audience education.

Responsibilities

This internship experience varies greatly depending on time of year and projects on the horizon. Tasks may include but not be limited to:

• Assist teaching artists at offsite school setting in all phases of a summer theatre daycamp for elementary aged students.
• Data entry and data management
• Booking elementary school theatre tours
• Writing/research for teacher handbooks that accompany student matinees

Experience/Background/Skills Requirements

• Excellent communication skills, detail oriented
• Competent in Microsoft Office 2000
• Two or more years coursework in college-level theatre classes
• Coursework in elementary education or child development a plus
• MUST be a self-starter and able to work independently

Dates/Hours

Hours and dates are by arrangement. Can be full or part time.

Wednesday Workdays/Special Events

One day each week, interns from all departments come together to support general company operations. On Wednesdays, interns assist in the warehouse in costume rentals or props, or in other labor-intensive projects. Cleaning and organizing rehearsal halls or distributing marketing materials to retail stores are examples of other possible Wednesday Workday projects. In addition, interns are expected to work on large company special events such Opening Night Receptions, the annual Season Announcement, or large patron fundraisers. Production management interns are excluded from Wednesday Workdays during peak periods.
