Costume Stock Management
TheatreWorks maintains a costume collection of approximately 28,000 costume pieces and accessories.
The Costume Stock Management internship is recommended for students of costume design, art history, fashion history, and information management.
Responsibilities
- Assist TheatreWorks staff with maintenance and organization of stock
- Assist visiting costume designers and Co-op members in finding, selecting, and pulling costumes
- Hand stitching and minor repairs
- Ascertain measurements, style, period, and other classifying factors which identify garments
- Label costumes for inclusion in the collection
- Data Entry
Skills Requirements
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work independently
- Physical strength and stamina - The collection is maintained in a warehouse setting, with three tiers of costumes. The intern will be up and down ladders throughout the day.
- Flexible/Good attitude
Wednesday Workdays/Special Events
One day each week, interns from all departments come together to support general company operations. On Wednesdays, interns assist in the warehouse in costumes or props, or in other labor-intensive projects. Cleaning and organizing rehearsal halls or distributing marketing materials to retail stores are examples of other possible Wednesday Workday projects. In addition, interns are expected to work on large company special events such Opening Night Receptions, the annual Season Announcement, or large patron fundraisers.
